"Every time I
turned the page and did the changes. My computer got
faster!"
Hi Mr James Scholes
First
a little about me.
I'm a 62 year young man who was forced into
retirement because of a very bad back and a lay-off. I was very
active before the problems came up and needed something to do with
my time so I got into Microsoft FSX and got hooked. At first I was
running it on a laptop getting about 10 to 15 FPS at low settings.
Not Good!! I almost gave up on it.
I started to look for a gaming machine that
would do justice to FSX and other games like it. I found that to run today's games I would one
Heck of a machine at one Heck of a price. I decided to
build one just for gaming and photo work. I found out that the parts
that will make or break a gaming machine are the CPU, GPU and MOBO
so I went with the best that I could afford. My CPU is an Intel
Quad, GPUs are 8800GTX’s (Two in SLI mode) and the MOBO is a BFG
680i SLI. Not bad? Well…Not real good YET!!
I was getting better
FPS’s up to 35 / 45 now but not at high settings so I started to
look into Overclocking.
Like most people
do I turned to the forums for help. Remember…. I'm 62 and this was
my first try at building and overclocking. I received reply
after reply about how to overclock. The problem was…I had no
idea what they were trying to tell me and on top of that one person would say one thing and another
person would say something else. The end result was I was no better
off after getting the information than I was before I got
it..
I just couldn't get a
handle on it!! I was getting very frustrated and almost gave up on
the project.
One day I was surfing the Web and came across (
www.overclockyourcpu.co.uk ) and
figured What Do I have to lose? I've already spent Big Bucks on the
machine and hour after hour trying to understand what the people
were trying to tell me on the forums so I gave it a try. Within an hour or so I had the E-books loaded,
printed and was on my way.
"Everything, I mean EVERYTHING, is explained in
detail"
The first thing I noticed
was how the books were written. Everything, I mean EVERYTHING, is
explained in detail.
Not only do they
give you written step by step instructions they give you screen
shots showing what is being explained (Pictures from a real
computer) showing each step along the way.
I couldn't
believe that, when presented the way it is in the books, it was that
easy to overclock a CPU and a GPU.
The books took
everything the people on the forums were trying to say, in computer
language, and put in an easy to read and understand format.
They also supply you with Web Site Links for other thing you can use
and should have for you overclocking project.
Do I sound like I
Love them? Well I do!!
I started my project with a 3Dmark06 score of a
little over 12,000. I'm now Running at 3.62GHz (A little over 53%
above stock CPU speed) with a 3DMark06 16,723
http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm06=2816525 As of this time I still
have to flash my BIOS and do a little more work on the CPU and GPUs.
I think after I update the BIOS I should be able to hit a 3DMark
score of 18,000 or better.
The machine is Stable as a
Rock and I'm getting between 45 and 70 FPS with good Eye Candy in
FSX SP1. (Almost every thing is set at high)I can't wait to see the FPS’s I get with the
new BIOS and reworking the settings.
Like I said “Do I love them?”You bet I do!!
And at time of writing, I went from the person that didn't know how to
do anything to the person that now has the 3
rd fastest machine listed on Nvidia’s
forum under Pimp My Rig.
http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=35489 I could keep going on and on about the books
but I have to get back to them because every time I turn a page and
make the changes the computer gets faster.
I do have one problem
now. How do you say Thank You to a man
that, by way of his books, took me from being a computer
know-nothing person to an Overclocking
Genius?
All I can say is...
Thank You Mr. James
Scholes……You have no idea what your
books did for me!!!!
Sincerely,
Bob …..From Philadelphia, Pa
USA.
